What happens if there is a co-inventor from another institution?

The fact that co-inventors are from different institutions does not affect the inventorship determination or patentability of the invention. Patent applications are filed in the name of inventors and usually ownership follows inventorship; employees of the co-inventors usually co-own the invention. ITA will represent UC's interests in negotiating inter-institutional agreement(s) with other entities, if they have rights in the invention being claimed in a patent application.
